The 8mm Roth-Steyr (AKA: 8mm Steyr) is a Center Fire cartridge with a Bullet Diameter of 0.329 in” (8.36mm) that is primarily used in Pistols. The 8mm Roth-Steyr originated in Austria-Hungary in 1907. The 8mm Roth-Steyr also has a case length of 0.734 in” (18.64mm) and an overall length of 1.142 in” (29.01mm).
The 8mm Roth-Steyr is an Austrian Pistol cartridge developed in the early 20th century for use in the Roth-Steyr M1907 semi-automatic pistol and was used throughout the first World War. In terms of power, the 8mm Roth-Steyr pistol cartridge is capable of velocities over 1000fps with muzzle velocities of around 250-300 ft-lbs depending on the load. This puts it in the range of the .380 ACP cartridge with a projectile of similar weight.
The 8mm Roth-Steyr cartridge closely resembles cartridges of its time such as the 9mm Parabellum and .32 ACP, with an overall length of 1.142″ (29mm) making it close in dimension to the 9x19mm Round, although with a smaller projectile and decreased velocities and muzzle energy.
The 8mm Roth-Steyr, although Austrian made and using an 8mm projectile, should not be confused with the 8mm Rast-Gasser, another Austrian made 8mm cartridge used in Revolvers that is considerably underpowered in comparison.
