Notes

The 8mm Rast-Gasser is an Austrian pistol cartridge developed by Leopold Gasser around 1898 for use in the Rast-Gasser Military Revolver circa 1870 and was used in both World War I and World War II. The cartridge was manufactured in Vienna until about 1912 alongside the M1870 and M1898 Rast & Gasser Revolvers, with revolver numbers reaching around 180,000 by the end of production when the company closed its doors.

The 8mm Rast-Gasser was popular in Europe and was still in production until after World War II, although it never gained popularity in the United States and has since been considered obsolete, although ammunition manufacturers such as Fiocchi are still offering a 126gr loading of the 8mm Rast-Gasser pistol cartridge. In terms of power, Fiocchi lists their FMJ load for the 8mm Rast-Gasser to run around 790fps with muzzle energy coming in about 225 ft-lbs, which is slightly better than the original loading which clocked around 780fps with around 170 ft-lbs of energy from the muzzle. In the 13th Edition of Cartridges of the World, the author states that a Lyman cast bullet No. 313445 (95-grains) paired with 2.2 grains of Alliant Bullseye Powder will achieve around 800fps, using .32 S&W cartridge data as a starting point to work up loads.
